Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use regular paperclips?
Regular paperclips my be used. However, we recommend using the treble clef clips which provide more metallic surface available to attract to the magnet strap.

How do I get the clips to stay tight on the page?
The clips must be applied as it is shown on the packaging, with the treble clef displayed. If you can see the treble clef shape, then the clip is placed correctly.

How do I purchase additional clips?
Additional clips may be purchased through www.youturnmusic.com and come in packages of 20. The benefit of additional clips is that they come in handy for use in numerous books and moving the YouTurn magnetic strap easily from book to book.

Why isn’t the magnet longer?
The strap would become too heavy with a larger magnet. The magnet is powerful enough to attract up to 20 sheets of music. Depending on the page thickness, the magnet strength may penetrate through more or less than 20 sheets. A sonata or concerto movement typically doesn’t exceed 20 music sheets, so the magnetic strap may be transferred between movements.

Coming soon, YouTurn will make smaller sized magnets available that may be placed on the strap to provide additional surface area for attracting more pages.

How can I use YouTurn with thin sheet music while performing outdoors?
Simply remove the magnet from the strap by rotating it clockwise and then place it directly on your stand.

For music stands that are not magnetic such as Manhasset stands, the strap may be hooked on to either the stand itself, or to a folder or binder and placed on your stand.

Altneratively, remove the magnet from the strap, place the metal strap on the BACK surface of the stand, and place the magnet on the FRONT surface of the stand. The magnet will be attracted to the metal strap on the back side of the stand. (See PDF Diagram)

Tips for using YouTurn outdoors in windy conditions:
If you are using sheet music and are performing outdoors in windy conditions, use AT LEAST TWO clips on the first and last pages of your sheet music. Also, make sure the treble clef is showing on from inside the book or pages. This way, the back side of the clip will lay totally flat against the magnet.

My book is really large. When I reach the middle of the book, both sides of the book’s pages won’t lay flat. YouTurn is designed to work in any part of your book. When you reach the middle of the book, try placing the strap inside the first quarter of the book, rather than right in the middle. Remember, YouTurn is strong enough to work through 20 sheets (40 pages depending on thickness). So, for example, you are working on a piece on page 50 of 100. Balance the book by placing YouTurn between pages 30-40 rather than right at page 50. Or, vice versa, if you need the right side of the book to stay flat, place YouTurn between pages 60-70 until the book is balanced.

Alternatively, two YouTurns may be ideal for use, one on each side of the book.

What makes YouTurn better than other page holding products?
With YouTurn, the musician can turn pages while still keeping their music open and flat. With other products, the musician must remove the page holder to turn the page or pages. Such is the case with clothes pins and music clips where the musician is able to only read two pages of music at a time.

How long will YouTurn last?
YouTurn product will last a lifetime if used correctly. Please note that the magnet is ceramic and may break, chip or crack if dropped on a hard surface.
